After detaching the text block from the cardboard support, the spine was entirely reinforced using japanese paper, wheat starch paste and Beva® 371 glue. The reinforcement was carried out step by step, layer by layer, with particular care given to the head and tail of the book.
The areas filled with japanese paper were then retouched, with watercolour for the matt areas and acrylic for the glossy areas (red and yellow).
